Tressa Guynes has been the Montrose County Clerk & Recorder since February, 2015, when she was appointed by the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) to fill the recently vacated seat. She was subsequently elected as the Clerk & Recorder in the 2016 General Election, and has declared as a candidate for the position in the 2018 General Election.
Tressa and her husband, Jeff, relocated to Montrose in 2012 shortly after she retired from the State of Mississippi with over 30 years of service. In her various roles with the State of Mississippi, Tressa gained an extensive knowledge of public administration including governmental management, regulations, budgeting, accounting and working in the political arena. She started her career with the State of Mississippi in 1981 while attending Mississippi College where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a minor in management. Through hard work, commitment and dedication she advanced through various positions, eventually becoming the State Chief Examiner and ending her career as the Secretary of the State Senate.
Tressa is proud to now call Montrose home. The move to Montrose has been an exceptional, unexpected, and positive experience. She admires and appreciates the openness and generosity of the residents, and the dedication and level of competency of her team at the Clerk & Recorder’s Office.
Providing excellent customer service and professionalism to the citizens of Montrose County is very important to Tressa. She and her team are committed to providing accurate, timely, and courteous service in vehicle title and licensing services, property title management, vital statistics recording, marriage license services, conduct of elections, voter registration, liquor licensing, and providing documentation support to the BOCC.
Tressa is very active in the community. In 2014 and prior to becoming the Clerk & Recorder, she contributed over 550 volunteer hours to various local organizations. She is currently a member of the Colorado County Clerks’ Association, Montrose County Republican Party, Montrose Republican Women’s Club, Uncompahgre Trail Riders Association, and the League of Women Voters.
In their spare time, Tressa and Jeff enjoy the multitude of outdoor activities available on the Western Slope. Whenever possible, they spend time downhill skiing, snowmobile riding, snow shoeing, hiking, ATV riding, playing tennis, back country 4WD riding, walking, and horseback riding. They also regularly attend and are active volunteers at Grace Community Church.
