Commissioner Keith Caddy delivered several boxes of ground beef to the West End Family Link Center last month. Tuesday, he delivered several more boxes of donated ground beef to Sharing Ministries, Inc. The beef came from steers purchased by the county at the junior livestock auctions of the San Miguel Basin Fair and Montrose County Fair. Both steers were processed into ground beef and donated to food banks on both ends of the county.

As part of the processing, the raw bones were also harvested and delivered to canine Roxie and friends at Hoof and Paw in Naturita, and also the Montrose Animal Services shelter. Each year, the county purchases a steer at both junior livestock sales and then donates the processed meat to local food banks. The raw bones from the steers are also processed and donated to local animal shelters as well. This is one way that the county continues to support agriculture and our local youth, as well as helping support our communities and animal shelters.
