Energy Efficient Homes

Although there are different definitions for “building green,” the idea is to reduce the damage we do to the environment by building in such a way that it reduces the structure’s impact on the environment. Montrose County Planning & Development supports energy efficient building. Currently, Montrose County is using the 1995 Model Energy Code (MEC) which contains energy efficiency criteria for new residential and commercial buildings and additions to existing buildings. It covers the building’s ceilings, walls, floors/foundations and the mechanical, lighting, and power systems. There are also many other resources available for individuals interested in energy efficient building.
