The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) issued a security directive (SD) affecting all individuals who access commercial service airports. The SD became effective June 1, 2009.
In order to comply with the SD the Montrose Regional Airport is required to establish procedures for anyone needing access to the Airport. The SD also requires Airport personnel to submit applicants' names to the TSA so that a Security Threat Assessment (STA) can be conducted. For SIDA Badges the applicant must submit to a fingerprint Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) in addition to the STA.
Once the CHRC and/or STA have been completed the Airport is required to issue a formalized identification (badge) to anyone requiring access to the air operations area (AOA) or Security Identification Display Area (SIDA). This applies to gate card holders, hangar owners, pilots, businesses, and vendors, etc.
AOA or SIDA Application Process
To begin the process to receive the AOA ID badge or the SIDA ID Badge, please come to the Airport Security Coordinator’s office located behind the Telluride Express counter in the passenger terminal. You must bring with you two original forms of approved identification. A list of approved ID can be found by clicking the link below. You will be required to complete an application (link provided below) and take a test. A fee of $50 for AOA badges and $60 for SIDA badges will be charged for this process and must be paid before submitting the application and taking the test. Cash or check only, no credit cards will be accepted.
Once the paperwork is completed it could take up to two weeks for the Airport to receive the CHRC and/or STA results and issue the ID badge. For additional information please contact the Airport Security Coordinator at 970-249-3433 Ext. 0.
